This model meets the needs of real-time applications: autonomous vehicles, augmented reality, connected industry, artificial intelligence inference close to the field. Its proliferation creates a fleet of distributed assets, often less physically secured and more exposed to local hazards than large fortified sites. For insurance, edge shifts the risk profile: the resilience of a single large centre gives way to a dispersion of small sites whose individual management is harder and whose exposure to local physical perils, theft, fire, water damage, is more direct. The granularity of the fleet complicates accumulation assessment and pricing.
