Injection attack

A technique that bypasses the camera outright by injecting a fabricated stream into the verification system.

Definition

The injection attack does not seek to fool the camera lens, it short-circuits the capture layer itself by feeding the system a synthetic video stream directly, often via a virtual camera. It defeats liveness tests that assume an image genuinely comes from a physical sensor, and it explains why presentation-attack detection alone no longer suffices. The answer requires dedicated injection-attack detection, binding between the live face and the identity document, and adaptive verification modulated by device and session anomalies.

Example

Injection attacks bypass the camera layer, so a synthetic face reaches the system without ever passing in front of a lens.
