Liveness detection is the mechanism that, during remote onboarding, must establish that the captured face belongs to a genuinely present person and not to a replayed image. It was adopted massively once remote onboarding generalized, to replace physical presence at the counter. The deepfake attacks it head on, through face swaps, virtual cameras or injection attacks, so the substitute proves more fragile than what it replaced. The remedy lies not in indefinitely improving detection, a race lost in advance, but in layering, passive and active liveness, injection detection, biometric binding to the document and continuous behavioral analysis.
